How can digital enable curators to change audience engagement?

How is exhibition design evolving? What technological tools, immersive artistry, virtual alchemy and behind-the-scenes networks are emerging that will make future exhibitions more exhilarating than their predecessors? How can digital enable curators to increase their reach, make exhibitions more accessible, and change how audiences engage with exhibits?
This four-part series of talks looks at the process of conceiving and constructing large-scale exhibitions via the opinions of some of the most influential curators, historians, producers and designers.
James Lavelle, Musician & Curator
James Lavelle is an icon of independent music, straddling numerous walks of pop culture; he founded the Mo'Wax record label in the early ‘90s, has been the only constant member of the UNKLE collective and has produced for film soundtracks and fashion shows. But he’s also a prolific curator - he created the ICA’s first show on skateboarding culture; in 2014 he directed the music, art, film and performance Meltdown festival and in 2016 curated Daydreaming with Stanley Kubrick at Somerset House - a ground-breaking odyssey into the world of the cult film-maker via the lens of over 60 other artists. He’s about to launch Beyond The Road - an exhibition with immersive theatre specialists, Punchdrunk.
Andrew Melchior, Founder, 3rd Space Agency
Originally a classical pianist but “with a penchant for building his own computers and synthesisers”, Andrew Melchior is not only a musician but one of Europe’s most influential creative technologists, dealing in complex, experimental, future-gazing immersive media. He’s the Chief Technology Officer for legendary British brand Massive Attack, was Technical Advisor to Björk for her incredible virtual reality exhibition Björk Digital in London in 2016 and her new show Cornucopia in New York and is also cofounder of the 3rd Space agency, which specialises in using diverse forms of emerging technology to manifest “new opportunities for artistic creative expression”.

Katie Baron is a London-based writer, content director, brand strategist and futurist with extensive experience within the fashion, retail and design industries. A recognised force in futurism she is also the global Head of Retail (Trends, Insights & Innovations) at Stylus.com.
She is a regular contributor to SHOWstudio.com and Forbes.com, a founding member of LCF’s future-scoping think-tank Digital Anthropology Lab and is the author of two books on visual culture - Stylists: New Fashion Visionaries and Fashion + Music: Fashion Creatives Shaping Pop Culture.
