Toby Kamps (Spotlight Curator and Director and Chief Curator of the Blaffer Art Museum, Houston) & Thea Westreich (Art Advisor and Private Collector) share their expert views on the standout work at Frieze London & Frieze Masters 2017.
The new Collecting Art series begins with a specific focus on the works coming to London for Frieze Masters and Frieze London, which open later that week (5-8 October 2017). Two key figureheads in the collecting world: Thea Westreich and Toby Kamps will offer their selection of highlights in advance of the fairs.
Providing expert advice on how to collect from these art fairs – from ancient to modern and contemporary art, with a special focus on the Spotlight gallery section at Frieze Masters - this event will provide a focused route into collecting art - from starting out, to taking the next steps into building a collection. This is a great opportunity to ask the two experts for advice.
Toby Kamps is the Curator of the Spotlight section at Frieze Masters, dedicated to under-appreciated artists from the 20th century. Kamps has newly been appointed Director and Chief Curator of the Blaffer Art Museum, University of Houston. Previously, as Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Menil Collection in Texas, he has curated numerous shows from artists such as Claes Oldenburg and Vanessa Beecroft.
Thea Westreich has been an art advisor for over 30 years and has also built up a significant personal art collection with her husband Ethan Wagner. In 2015, they donated over 850 works to Centre Pompidou in Paris and The Whitney Museum in New York.
Tickets include complimentary drinks and entry to Frieze London 2017.
