The Editions Section
Launched as a new section in 2021, Editions opens up the world of collecting to new audiences and offers the opportunity to buy works by leading international artists at affordable prices.
Highlights include Rana Begum's first experiments in lenticular technology; new collages by Clare Woods; new editions by Julian Opie which explore representations of a French village; a new large-scale woodcut with collage by Yinka Shonibare CBE and new prints by Michael Craig-Martin (Cristea Roberts Gallery, London, Frieze London, Stand A6).
Silkscreen prints by Paul Hutchinson, whose photographs and lyrical texts deal with social phenomena of urban life such as contemporary youth culture and the circumstances of social mobility. (Knust Kunz Gallery Editions, Munich, Frieze London, Stand B14).
Do Ho Suh’s 3D Thread Drawings are rearticulated into ghostly silhouettes in shades of cyan blue, reminiscent of radiographic images; works by Genevieve Chua exploring structures and processes of painting through the use of diagram, palimpsest, syntax and the glitch; Ryan Gander’s multi-disciplinary works are defined by minimal objects that convey a partial narrative of fictional and non-fictional; and Jason Martin is perhaps best known for his monochromatic paintings, and (STPI Gallery, Singapore, Frieze London, Stand C14).
‘On a spaceship’ by Ibrahim Mahama
The edition On a spaceship (2019-2022) by Ibrahim Mahama features an image of building work in progress at Mahama’s Red Clay studio complex in Tamale, overlaid with archival imagery from a former state- run paint factory in Tema, Ghana.
Sales of the edition support the Frieze x Deutsche Bank Emerging Curators Fellowship, a national initiative supporting emerging Black and POC curators.
On a spaceship (2019-2022) is available as an edition of 30 and priced at £800 + VAT each, with 100% of sales proceeds benefiting the fellowship. Or you can also enter a prize draw to win the edition, by making a donation of your choice.
Allied Editions
Allied Editions (Stand P5) is a unique artist editions collective made up of seven of London’s leading not-for-profit arts organisations: Camden Arts Centre, Chisenhale Gallery, Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA), South London Gallery, Studio Voltaire, Serpentine and Whitechapel Gallery. Supported by Frieze Art Fair, the collective hosts a shared stand at Frieze London and Frieze New York showcasing specially commissioned limited editions for sale.
Editions are specially commissioned and donated by leading contemporary artists. The initiative has raised over £1,300,000 to date, with the proceeds directly supporting the organisations’ exhibition and education programmes.
Highlights include new affordable works by Anthea Hamilton, Emma Talbot and Chris Ofili.
