Manifesta announces its line-up and Bobby Miller brings charges against the Mapplethorpe Foundation: the latest news from the art world

  • Manifesta has announced the line-up for its 11th edition, ‘What People Do for Money: Some Joint Ventures’, which sees artists paired with locals and will take place in Zurich in June. Curated by artist Christian Jankowski, participants include Maurizio Cattelan, Teresa Margolles and the French novelist Michel Houellebecq.
     
  • The Mike Kelley Foundation has announced the nine LA organizations that are to benefit from its first Artist Project Grants. They include Clockshop, LA Filmforum and the temporarily homeless Santa Monica Museum of Art.
     
  • Poet Bobby Miller is suing the Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation for USD$65 million. Miller claims that the Foundation has ‘misrepresented and continues to misrepresent’ images that he took of Mapplethorpe in 1979 as ‘self-portraits’.
     
  • Mikhail Piotrovsky, director of the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, Russia, has pledged that the museum will offer its expertise in helping restore the city of Syrian city of Palmyra.
     
  • The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation has announced the recipients of its 2016 fellowships. In total, 175 fellowships have been awarded to 178 individuals working across a variety of creative fields.
