Stockholm’s Magasin III to open Israel space; Hayward name senior curators; Prada Foundation opens in Shanghai

The Prada Foundation have opened Prada Rong Zhai, a new cultural centre housed in a Shanghai mansion (restored by architect Roberto Baciocchi). Prada Rong Zhai is located in Jing’an District and currently has an exhibition that explains the renovation process, as well as previous Prada architectural ventures.

The Museum of Contemporary Art Toronto, Canada, has named Heidi Reitmaier as executive director and CEO. She will take up the role at the beginning of 2018. She was formerly the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago’s director of learning and public prorammes. Reitmaier succeeds Chantal Pontbriand who left in June 2016.

Maine’s Portland Museum of Art, US, has revealed the list of participating artists for its 2018 biennial, which launches on 26 January 2018. The artists – who all live in or have ties to Maine – include painter Anne Buckwalter and photographer Rosamond Purcell. Independent curator Nat May commented: ‘Rather than put together a ‘greatest hits’ exhibition, we wanted to use the opportunity of the Biennial to focus on artists who hadn’t previousy participated in PMA Biennials or other programming at this institution.’

Lara Favaretto’s piece Momentary Monument – The Stone at this year’s Skulpture Projekte Münster, Germany, included a slit in which visitors could leave donations to an organization supporting those facing deportation. It has raised EUR€26,600 for Hilfe für Menschen in Abschiebehaft Büren e.V.

Stockholm's Magasin III art space is set to open a satellite location in Jaffa, Israel, at the beginning of 2018. Magasin III was founded by David Neuman in 1987. The news of its Israel space comes after a two-year pause for its Stockholm location.

Vincent Honoré and Cliff Lauson have been named senior curators at London’s Hayward Gallery. Lauson has been a Hayward curator since 2009 and will take up the new role in November. Honoré joins in December, formerly chief curator at the David Roberts Art Foundation. The positions opened up after Stephanie Rosenthal left as chief curator to become director of Berlin’s Martin-Gropius Bau museum.

Photographer William Eggleston has released his new album of synthesizer music today – Musik is his debut album. ‘I think there’s absolutely a link between music in general and what I do in photography,’ he told the New York Times.

Former Contemporary Director at Christie's London, Fernando Mignoni is opening a gallery in New York’s Upper East Side on 960 Madison Avenue. Mignoni Gallery will open on 31 October with an inaugural show by Donald Judd – the gallery will also run an art advisory service. The gallery is dedicated to work by European and American post-war artists with a focus on minimalism.
