  • Renowned architect Dame Zaha Hadid has died aged 65. Amongst other projects, Hadid was responsible for the London Aquatics Centre, Guangzhou Opera House and the Phæno Science Centre in Wolfsburg, and was the first female recipient of the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2004.
     
  • British artist Idris Khan has been commissioned to create a major new monument for a public park in Abu Dhabi.
     
  • The Art Newspaper has published its annual exhibition attendance survey. The most visited shows in London, New York and Paris respectively were: 'Ai Weiwei', Royal Academy of Arts; 'China: Through the Looking Glass', The Metropolitan Museum of Art; and 'Jeff Koons: the Retropective', Centre Pompidou.
     
  • The Los Angeles County Museum of Art has added three new members to its board of trustees: museum directors Thelma Golden and Soumaya Slim, and former fashion executive Caroline Grainge.
     
  • Italy's ministry of culture has announced that it is to increase security at national heritage sites and museums in the wake of the Brussels attacks. 
     
  • Australian philanthropist, TV executive and Tate trustee Elisabeth Murdoch has established a £100,000 prize for mid-career, female artists.
