Getting to the fair

  • Saturday opening times are 11am–7pm.

  • To get the best view of Alex da Corte’s project outside of the tent, take the ferry from East 35th Street (departs every 30 minutes; journey time 20 minutes). Tickets are $19 round-trip.
     
  • Or take the Frieze Bus: departs every 10 minutes from outside the Guggenheim Museum on 5th Avenue.
     
  • If you have to drive, it’s best to get an Uber or a cab. There is limited valet parking.

At the fair

  • Coming to the fair with children? Remember to pick up the Youth Guide to the Fair,  designed by ‘Frieze Teens’ in collaboration with design studio Project Projects as part of the Frieze Education Program.
     
  • Head straight to the Auditorium at 12pm for ‘On Hating On…’, a conversation between poet and novelist Ben Lerner and art critic Hal Foster about the use of artifice versus reality in recent art and fiction, and their hatred of poetry and painting.
     
  • At 12.30pm in the Reading Room, writer Wayne Koestenbaum will present live aura readings to celebrate the publication of his new book, Notes on Glaze.
     
  • Following this at 1.30pm, artist Carlos Motta and frieze assistant editor Evan Moffitt will discuss gender, sexuality, immigration, the production of colonial history in Latin America, and other themes central to Motta's practice.
     
  • Head back to the Auditorium at 4pm for the second Frieze Talks event of the day: ‘Version Control’ a panel chaired by Joanne McNeil with Thomas Demand, Oliver Laric and Stephanie Syjuco.
     
  • At 4.30pm in the Reading Room, senior editor of Bidoun and frieze columnist Negar Azimi will be in conversation with Ketuta Alexi-Meskhishvili.
     
  • Make sure not to miss Eduardo Navarro’s new commission for Frieze Projects, which will come to life at 2.30pm and 5.30pm at booth P2, near to the north entrance.
     
  • Today’s highlights: keep and eye out for Elizabeth Dee’s presentation of works by John Giorno (D2), films by Derek Jarman at Wilkinson Gallery (C14), and a David Wojnarowicz installation, which is being shown by P.P.O.W (C1) in advance of the artist’s retrospective at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 2018.

In the city

  • As part of Upper East Side Morning, a number of galleries and non-profits will open their doors to the public. A full list of participating galleries can be found here.
     
  • At 10am, curator Mark Rosenthal will lead a tour of the latest exhibition at Acquavella Galleries, ‘Jean Dubuffet: Anticultural Positions’.
     
  • Head to David Zwirner at 11am for a tour of ‘Sigmar Polke: Eine Winterreise’ with Vincente Todolí, artistic director of Pirelli Hangar Bicocca, Milan.

Night

  • Don’t miss this year’s Chelsea Night, which sees galleries and non-profits located in the borough remain open to Frieze audiences after-hours, with many spaces hosting special events and private views. A full list of participating galleries can be found here.
     
  • At 5.30pm, Tanya Bonakdar Gallery will host Haim Steinbach in conversation with Timothy Morton, Professor and Rita Shea Guffey Chair in English at Rice University.
     
  • Head over to 303 Gallery at 6pm for the opening reception of Alicja Kwade’s latest exhibition, the inaugural show at the gallery’s new home at 555 West 21st Street.
