You're based in Düsseldorf. How would you describe the scene there as distinct from other art centres in Germany, or elsewhere in Europe?

A gallery is always embedded in a specific local culture, and shapes their understanding of what it means to engage in art. Dusseldorf, as part of the Rhineland, offers an incredibly rich heritage to relate to, and there’s a freedom here to create a programme that adds to that history.

Of course, the Rhineland has a such distinguished history of galleries. Are there any more established dealers you look up, or would like to follow in the steps of?

This is of course an interesting question - since I am the son of the dealer Hans Mayer! So he’s an obvious choice. In addition, Jean-Pierre Wilhelm at Galerie 22 created a legacy in Düsseldorf, which shaped the path for many other galleries in the region: including us.

What are you presenting at Focus

At Focus we are presenting a solo stand of new works by Jan Paul Evers. Evers is the artist I have worked with the longest: we opened a show at my gallery in 2011. It’s very exciting to bring his work to Frieze for the first time.

Are there any other galleries in the fair you are especially looking forward to seeing?

I am very much looking forward to see my friends Jeffrey and Misako of Misako & Rosen.

What else around London do you plan to do during Frieze Week?

Phonica - a vinyl speciliast in Soho.
