Exhibiting at the fair for the first time, New York-based Bridget Donahue has received this year’s Frame Prize at Frieze New York, for the gallery’s presentation of work by Susan Cianciolo.

At the fair, Bridget Donahue presents an expansive survey of the artist’s collages, spanning the earliest days of her career to the present day. The artist, though active in the city for three decades, continues to be an inspiration to different generations of practitioners. A legendary figure in New York’s art and fashion communities, Susan Cianciolo’s work is also on view this week as part of the Whitney Biennial.

The jury - comprising  Laura Copelin, Curator and Interim Director, Ballroom Marfa; Alex Gartenfeld, Deputy Director and Chief Curator, ICA Miami; and Co-Curator of the New Museum Triennial, 2018; and Anna Gritz, Curator, KW Institute for Contemporary Art (Kunste Werke, Berlin) - noted how the even the presentation of the works on view “stayed very true to the spirit of” Cianciolo’s multifaceted practice, and represented Bridget Donahue’s “unique eye”.

The Frame Prize, supported for the second consecutive year by Stella Artois, is awarded to a gallery within Frieze New York’s Frame section. Featuring 17 exhibitors this year, Frame is reserved for galleries eight year or younger, to bring together the most exciting young spaces from London to Shanghai, and from New York itself. It is advised by curators Jacob Proctor and Fabian Schöneich.
