The Frieze Art Fair Stand Prize 2017 has been awarded to Galeria Luisa Strina, São Paulo (Stand C8) for their outstanding presentation in the main section of this year’s Frieze London. Each year, the Stand Prize recognizes a gallery presentation that exhibits an innovative curatorial response to the art fair context.

Galeria Luisa Strina’s stand featured a selection of works by the gallery’s artists. A jury of international curators and directors noted that ‘history is so important to curatorial practice, and the range of galleries revisiting important artists was striking, both across the fair and in the Sex Work section Alison Gingeras curated on radical feminist artists. Lusia Strina stood out because of their concise presentation of their gallery artists, which brought together a range of impressive works, including two important installations by Alexandre de Cunha and by Renata Lucas.’

This year’s jurors included Eungie Joo (Chief Curator, SF MOMA), Nicolaus Shafthausen (Director, Kunsthalle Wien) and Dirk Snauwert (Director WIELS, Brussels).

Special commendations also went to Mendes Wood, São Paulo (C14), Galeria Gregor Podnar, Berlin (G11), Galerie Hubert Winter, Vienna (S5), and Air de Paris, Paris (S8).

A second Stand Prize, which recognizes an outstanding presentation in the Focus section of this year’s Frieze London, is announced the later in the week.
