Studio visit with British artist Toby Ziegler in conversation with Simon Groom, Director of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, discussing art practices and the process of  Ziegler's work in the context of his studio. Guests will have the chance to ask questions, and refreshments will be served.

Toby Ziegler is a British artist working in film, sculpture, installation and painting. His practice incorporates found digital imagery layered with historical and art historical references in an enquiry of the way we remember and record images. His work has been shown extensively internationally and has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions including Freud Museum, London, UK (2017); New Art Centre, Roche Court, Salisbury, UK (2017); Simon Lee Gallery, London, UK (2016); The Hepworth Wakefield, Wakefield, UK (2014); Zabludowicz Collection, London, UK which travelled to Sarisalvo, Finland, New Art Gallery, Walsall, UK and Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, Helsinki, Finland (2011-2012). His work is represented in prestigious private and museum collections around the world including The Arts Council of England; The British Council; Tate Collection; François Pinault Foundation; Zabludowicz Collection; Goss-Michael Foundation; Kadist Art Foundation; British Airways Collection, amongst others.

Simon Groom is Director of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. He joined the National Galleries of Scotland in 2007 from Tate Liverpool where he was Head of Exhibitions, and prior to that Exhibition’s Organiser at Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge. Simon has curated numerous exhibitions of modern and contemporary international art, with a special interest in contemporary art from the Far East. He studied English literature at Edinburgh University, spent a year living in Japan and three years in Italy, where he taught English literature and critical theory at Florence University, before completing an MA and PhD in Art History at the Courtauld Institute of Art. He has played an active role in many institutions, including Governor of Glasgow School of Art, Board member of the Young People’s Committee, Royal Society of Edinburgh, Member of the National Cultural Diplomacy Group and the Art Advisory Group at the British Council, and is on the Advisory Board of Art UK.
