Professor Fred Moten (Department of Performance Studies, NYU) in conversation with artist Sondra Perry.

Fred Moten teaches in the Department of Performance Studies at New York University. His latest work is consent not to be a single being (Duke University Press, 2017/2018). He and Stefano Harney are authors of All Incomplete, forthcoming next year from Minor Compositions/Autonomedia. Earlier this year, Moten received the Roy Lichtenstein Award from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts and was named a United States Artists fellow.

Sondra Perry (b. 1986) is an interdisciplinary artist who works with video, computer- based media and performance to explore the digital abstraction of identity in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. She holds an MFA from Columbia University, a BFA from Alfred University, and is currently based in Houston, Texas as part of the artist-in-residence programme CORE at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

Currently, Perry has a solo exhibition on view at the Serpentine Galleries, London and had recently Seattle Art Museum in Seattle, Washington and The Kitchen, New York. Perry has screened her videos and presented talks at institutions including the Vera List Center at The New School, The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and The Artists’s Institute, New York, among others.
