Cao Fei, Haze & Fog, 2013, 46:30min

Cao Fei mixes pop aesthetics, fantasy, and surrealistic references with documentary and social commentary to reflect on China’s rapidly changing economy and how it transforms the everyday lives and imaginations of its citizens. Haze & Fog features nouveau riche businessmen, musicians, security guards, maids, manicurists, and sex workers who cross paths in the confines of a compartmentalized and alienating apartment complex. They are all, ultimately, seeking human contact—and they are ripe for the emergence of the undead.

Sophia Al-Maria and Victoria Sin, BCE, 2018. 9:42 min

BCE draws on feminism and radical queer politics to consider themes of history and narrative, presenting a new distinct creation myth. In an ongoing collaboration Al-Maria has invited London-based artist, writer and performer Victoria Sin, Sin performs the myth to camera, interrogating the patriarchal dimensions of sex, race, gender and fertility.
