Frieze x GANNI Present: ‘Art and My City’ a Conversation between Photographer Sandy Kim and Curator Essence Harden

Please join Frieze and GANNI for the second ‘Art and My City’ event, featuring a conversation between artist and photographer Sandy Kim and curator and writer Essence Harden. The event will take place at the Ganni flagship on Melrose Avenue.

Essence Harden is a Ph.D. Candidate, independent curator, and arts writer. Essence has curated exhibitions at Charlie James Gallery, California African American Museum (CAAM), Antenna Gallery (New Orleans), Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (LACE), Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD), The Advocate and Gochis Galleries, Residency Art Gallery (Inglewood), Human Resources, Oakland Museum of California (2020), and UTA Arts (2020). Their writing has appeared in Contemporary Art Review LA (CARLA), LALA, Cultured Magazine, Performa Magazine, and SFAQ: International Arts and Culture amongst others. Essence is a recipient of The 2018 Creative Capital, Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Program Grant.

Sandy Kim is an artist based in Los Angeles and Brooklyn. She attended the Academy of Art University (San Francisco), graduating in 2009 with a BFA in Graphic Design. First gaining international exposure for her intimate portraits of the band Girls, Kim’s work has been featured in The New York Times, The New Yorker, Artforum, Vogue Italia, Nylon, Vice, W, New York Magazine, Interview Magazine, The Guardian, Elle, Wired, and Rolling Stone. Recent exhibitions include [On Approval] Beta Launch at Ever Gold [Projects] (San Francisco, 2019); Coming of Age at Little Big Man Gallery (Los Angeles, 2019); As I See It at Muddguts (solo, Brooklyn, 2018); Analog Brain at Little Big Man Gallery (solo, Los Angeles, 2017); More Than a Muse at 65 Ludlow (New York, 2016); and Like Two Ships In The Night at New Image Art Gallery (Los Angeles, 2016). Commercially Sandy has shot works for clients such as Louis Vuitton,Supreme,Calvin Klein and Marc Jacobs.
