The Captioning Séance
Join Wayne Koestenbaum for live aura readings to celebrate his new book Notes on Glaze
In 2010, poet and cultural critic Wayne Koestenbaum began a regular column in Cabinet magazine. Entitled "Legend", the column's premise was that Koestenbaum would write one or more extended captions for a photograph that the editors had sent him. These images - drawn from vernacular, commercial, and scientific sources - were all familiar to the author. Notes on Glaze, released this month, features all eighteen columns alongside a new introductory essay. For this launch, Koestenbaum invites visitors to bring a photo and receive from him a spontaneous, individualized caption. The performance will be a form of drop-by clairvoyance, with each caption based on Koestenbaum's instant interpretation of the visitor's aura.

Hollow Body: Negar Azimi in conversation with Ketuta Alexi-Meskhishvili
Ketuta Alexi-Meskhishvili will be present to discuss her new book Hollow Body, published by Koelnischer Kunstverein and Walther Konig. Hollow Body offers up a parade of images - at turns abstract and figurative - drawn from the last two years of the artist's work. The book's idiosyncratic format plays with transparency, layering, and collage. The timing of this conversation with Bidoun editors coincides with the artist's show at Andrea Rosen Gallery in New York. Alexi-Meskhishvili is an artist based in Berlin and a former Creative Director at Bidoun. Hollow Body is designed by Dan Solbach and was conceived by Moritz Wesseler.
