Gallery Wendi Norris, San Francisco (W8)

Chitra Ganesh (b. 1975, New York; lives and works in Brooklyn)

Chitra Ganesh creates work that pushes the boundaries of gender and power, occupying the liminal space between myth and reality, history and futurity.

Unearthly Delights is an installation of mixed media paintings evoking a cosmic night garden as a post-apocalyptic site of regeneration. The works depict a variety of creatures – animal, human and superheroine. Their environs are at once dystopian and lush, considering the amazing capacity of the natural environment to flourish in the wake of human destruction and violence.

Recent solo exhibitions in the United States have been held at the Brooklyn Museum, New York, MoMA PS1, New York, The Rubin Museum of Art, New York, The Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh and The Kitchen, New York. International institutions include Hayward Gallery, London, Saatchi Gallery, London, The Royal College of Art, London, Gothenburg Kunsthalle, Gothenburg, Dhaka Art Summit, Dhaka, Museum of Contemporary Art, Shanghai and Gwangju Art Museum, Gwangju amongst others.
