For Spotlight, Galeria Berenice Arvani presents work by Décio Noviello, a historical name in Brazilian arts. He showed his artworks in four International Biennials of São Paulo (1969, 1971, 1973 and 1975) and participated in the show ‘Do corpo à terra’ (Parque Municipal, Belo Horizonte, 1970), a landmark of the so-called Neo-Vanguard Brazilian. He explored artefacts unusual to the artistic universe of the time using coloured smoke to send colours out in the air. This gesture of expanding the technique of painting today is called ‘Expanded field painting’. In addition to exploring painting, mainly in the language of Pop, Noviello acted in the 1960s as a costume designer and scenographer at carnival parades.
