Artist, designer and performer Susan Cianciolo slips between fields and formats. RUN, her critically acclaimed fashion collection from the 1990s, challenged the false dichotomies of art and design, event and document. Cianciolo continues to produce work that willfully evades categorization of the body through drawing, videos, clothing and kits.

For Frame, Cianciolo presents a collection of works on paper hung with vintage brass picture hangers in an immersive atmosphere. Cianciolo’s work embeds itself in the body and performance. This display offers a rich selection from Cianciolo’s 20-year career with watercolors, paintings, garment designs, recipes and drawings. Many of the works have never been shown before and are essential to understanding the lyrical shorthand found in Cianciolo’s other work.

Susan Cianciolo (b. 1969, Providence, RI) studied Fashion Design at Parsons The New School for Design and painting at Winchester School of Art. From 1995–2001 she produced her critically-acclaimed collection RUN, revived in recent years in various forms. Cianciolo has presented her work in New York at MoMA PS1, Bridget Donahue gallery and most recently in the the 2017 Whitney Biennial at the Whitney Museum of American Art.
