Issue 16
Sept - Nov 2014

The 16th issue of frieze d/e features Judith Hopf, Florine Stettheimer, Dorothy Iannone and Franz Erhard Walther, as well as all our regular columns and reviews.

As her first international retrospective opens at Lenbachhaus, Munich, we invite artists and writers Tomma Abts, Dan Fox, Birgit Megerle, Silke Otto-Knapp and Jan Verwoert to respond to the work of Florine Stettheimer (1871–1944).

Kolja Reichert surveys the pioneering career of German artist Franz Erhard Walther who, since the 1960s, has been expanding notions of sculpture and performance through his belief in the artwork’s completion in participation and the imagination.

Also featured: Astrid Mania looks at humour and the knowing ‘stupidity’ in the work of Berlin-based artist Judith Hopf; Kirsty Bell writes about American artist Dorothy Iannone‘s frank portrayals of sexual identity, and Pablo Larios explores recent collaborative practices emerging in response to ‘Network Fatigue.’
