Frieze Los Angeles will take place from February 20-23, 2025, with a dynamic program that underscores the fair’s ongoing commitment to the city’s artistic and cultural landscape. Against the backdrop of community rebuilding following the recent wildfires, this year’s edition of Frieze Los Angeles is focused on galvanizing relationships between artists, galleries and cultural institutions.
Taking place at Santa Monica Airport, the fair will bring together over 95 international and local galleries, showcasing ambitious presentations, including major solo projects, visionary LA-based artists and today's most exciting emerging talents. The fair will also expand its public programming, offering new initiatives that directly engage with artists and communities affected by recent challenges.
‘Galleries Together’ for LA Arts Community Fire Relief Fund
Frieze has supported the LA Arts Community Fire Relief Fund since its inception, and since January has donated 10 percent of all new ticket sales to the fund. At Frieze Los Angeles, Victoria Miro will open its stand to Galleries Together, an initiative encouraging galleries participating in the fair to donate works to be sold, with the money raised going to the fire relief fund.
Frieze Arts Alliance
This new initiative launching at Frieze Los Angeles unites major collecting institutions from across the US in a shared commitment to supporting LA’s galleries and cultural ecosystem, through active acquisition funds at the fair. The inaugural group includes the The Baltimore Museum of Art, Berkeley Art Museum & Pacific Film Archive, the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University, Guggenheim New York, Institute of Contemporary Art Miami, Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, Queens Museum, Pérez Art Museum Miami, Seattle Art Museum, Studio Museum in Harlem, and Toledo Museum of Art, among others.
Frieze Los Angeles x MAC3
This year’s fair also sees the launch of a major new acquisition fund supporting artists who live and work in LA. Frieze Los Angeles in collaboration with the Mohn Art Collective: Hammer Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MAC3) is a dedicated fund of $75,000 for the MAC3 institutions to jointly acquire work(s) that become part of Los Angeles’s cultural legacy.
Santa Monica Art Bank Acquisition
Returning to Frieze Los Angeles 2025, the City of Santa Monica Art Bank acquires works by artists based in Southern California to expand its collection with diverse voices from the region.
Summaeverythang Community Center
Artist Lauren Halsey’s South Central LA nonprofit organization is partnering with Frieze at the fair to showcase its vision for a permanent hub in the city offering education, health, wellness and creative opportunities. Activations include a presentation created in collaboration with artist Alake Shilling and students from Bret Harte Preparatory Middle School and Rosebud Academy; and a panel discussion featuring architect Barbara Bestor, who will explore the innovative design behind the future center, illustrating how thoughtful architecture can serve as a catalyst for community transformation.
The Black Trustee Alliance x Frieze Los Angeles – ‘Land Memories’
An initiative for 2025 that focuses on the legacy of Altadena’s Black and POC communities in the aftermath of the Eaton Fire. The project will feature a panel discussion with Kenturah Davis and Leah Thomas (Green Girl Leah) and an onsite activation within the fair.
AMBOS (Art Made Between Opposite Sides)
Frieze and AMBOS are collaborating to present ‘Frutas Coquetas (Sexy Fruit)’, an installation of ceramic works by artists in a trauma-informed ceramics programme for refugees and asylum seekers. This initiative underscores Frieze and AMBOS’ commitment to cross-border efforts, with all proceeds benefiting migrant groups along the border.
Frieze Impact Prize
A collaboration between Frieze and WME, in partnership with the Center for Art & Advocacy and its fellowship programme Right of Return, the Frieze Impact Prize is awarded annually to an artist whose work or practice has had a significant social impact. Previous winners include Gary Tyler and Dredd Scott.
Frieze Projects x Art Production Fund
The fair will once again feature the Art Production Fund’s critically acclaimed public program, with site-specific artworks by Lita Albuquerque, Jackie Amézquita, Claire Chambless, Joel Gaitan, Madeline Hollander, Greg Ito, Ozzie Juarez and Dominique Moody, placed throughout the Santa Monica Airport campus. Projects will take place across the athletic fields, and sculptures will be exhibited throughout the park, all free for visitors to attend, no fair ticket needed.
Spotlight on Coco Fusco’s Only in Darkness
Frieze is also pleased to present a city-wide project by the interdisciplinary artist Coco Fusco in a special collaboration with Mendes Wood DM, and Orange Barrel Media. Through her work Only in Darkness, Fusco continues her exploration of race, gender, and colonialism, inviting audiences to reflect on these critical themes through the act of skywriting. Fusco’s project will be presented through a series of public billboards and digital screens throughout Los Angeles, offering a collective space for reflection and dialogue.
