Founded in 2015 in La Habana, El Apartamento is interested in the most incisive proposals in Cuban and Spanish art. Its commitment to contemporary productions, sustained work with artists, and promotion of debate among the different agents of the art world foster the gradual articulation of a particular position within the Hispano-American art circuit.
The gallery has already organized several exhibitions of interest, including collateral shows to the XII and XIII editions of the Havana Biennial and projects for the collaborative program CONDO (New York and Mexico City) and the Photo-España Festival. Many of its curatorial projects have been carried out through collaboration with prominent figures from the art world.
El Apartamento has been gradually consolidating its artists' visibility in the international arena through its dialog with artistic institutions and its participation in essential art fairs: ArtBo (Colombia), ARCO Madrid (Spain), The Armory Show (USA), ZonaMACO (Mexico), Untitled (USA), LISTE Art Fair (Switzerland), and Art Brussels (Belgium), among others.
The results of this work can be seen in the placement of some of its artists in prestigious collections such as The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Tate Modern, the María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation, and the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM). In addition, the gallery has been included in the International Galleries Alliance (IGA), the SOUTH SOUTH Veza platform, and the New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA).
In 2023, El Apartamento opened a new venue in Madrid, Spain, which enriched the gallery's artistic and curatorial projection and allowed the incorporation of new artists, audiences, and cultural experiences.
