Thomas Dane Gallery opened in April 2004 with an inaugural exhibition of works by Steve McQueen, followed in October of the same year with Paul Pfeiffer's first solo show in the UK. The gallery has since hosted the first UK solo exhibitions of Albert Oehlen, Jorge Queiroz, Jose Damasceno, Jean-Luc Moulene, Glenn Ligon, Arturo Herrera, Luisa Lambri, Michel Francois, Abraham Cruzvillegas, Walead Beshty, Lynda Benglis, Terry Adkins, Kelley Walker, in addition to a strong group of British artists.
The gallery also regularly hosts historical shows (Calder, Davie, Forg and recently the first retrospective of Bob Law) and invites outside curator to commission a project or organise an exhibition.The gallery has been located at 11 Duke Street, St. James's in London since its creation and extended to also include 3 Duke Street St. James's in 2011. In 2018 the gallery opened a new gallery space and residency in Naples, Italy.
