‘In our society, we are always trying to escape from death,’ says artist Berlinde De Bruyckere. ‘I try to give this possibility that my work can open some dialogue to talk about this: it’s all part of us, we don’t have to escape.’ Ahead of her new show ‘Stages & Tales’ at Hauser & Wirth Somerset, De Bruyckere discusses her sculptural works: exposing layered blankets to time and nature, allowing them to weather away and decompose.

Berlinde De Bruyckere: ‘Stages & Tales’ runs at Hauser & Wirth, Somerset, from 29 September 2018 – 1 January 2019.
