Founded in 2013, Sokyo Gallery represents over sixty artists in and out of Japan. The gallery handles work in contemporary ceramic, lacquer, textile, glass and metal.
In 2018, Atsumi Fujita Project was found under Sokyo Gallery and focuses contemporary art such as sculpture, painting, photography and drawing that are inspired from traditional materials and have references to art history in Japan.
The gallery holds eleven exhibitions through a year and participates in international art fairs all over the world such as Frieze Seoul, Artissima, ART021, Dangdai, Design Basel, TEFAF Maastricht and more.
The gallery works closely with prestigious museums and institutions to organize exhibitions and build permanent collections.
In addition to the exhibitions and the art fairs, the gallery contributes public art projects which enlivens local communities.
The gallery has two locations in Kyoto, and three sister galleries, Sokyo Atsumi (Tokyo), Sokyo Lisbon (Lisbon, Portugal) and Gallery Tosei (Kyoto).
