Carlton Rochell Asian Art was founded in 2002, and its first gallery location was in the historic Fuller Building on 57th Street in New York. A number of ground-breaking shows and collections have been featured at the gallery over the last 20 years, and many artworks have been placed with prominent international museums and private collections. Carlton was with Sotheby’s for 17 years prior to opening his gallery and is credited for founding the department of Indian, Himalayan, and Southeast Asian Art there in 1988. He has handled many magnificent objects during his time in the art market and has always believed strongly in the importance of introducing Western collectors to this lesser-known area of the Asian art market.
