Founded as Walden Gallery in 2016, W has established itself as a platform for critical reflection on artistic processes, production conditions, cultural practices, and political-affective connections between artworks, artists, audiences, and institutions.
The gallery has three locations. In Buenos Aires, W—Archivo is housed in a restored historic building once occupied by the iconic CAyC (Centre for Arts and Communication), a pivotal institution in the internationalization of Latin American art from 1969 until the mid-90s. The gallery fosters collaborations between artists spanning different generations and develops exhibitions focusing on archive material, editorial work, and research as a process.
Also in Buenos Aires, W—Galería is located in the space where the Helft Collection was once housed during the 1980s. With ambitious institutional programming, it boasts four large-scale galleries and an impressive garden. The space is designed to exhibit contemporary proposals enriched by activities encouraging cross-disciplinary interactions.
In Pueblo Garzón, Uruguay, W—Naturae is committed to playing an active role in the local and international art scene by offering a program which combines historical and contemporary exhibitions in an idyllic context for art, seeking to renew the traditional concept of exhibition space while promoting ecological and artistic initiatives in connection with the environment.
Alongside year-round exhibitions and participation in international art fairs, W publishes artist books and essays with its editorial label, and since 2019 produces Yulinda, a biannual publication for artistic dissemination, discussion, and critical analysis, encouraging research on contemporary creative practices.
