2023 Kiaf SEOUL × KAMS × Frieze Seoul Talks: What Makes an Art Collector?

Hosted in collaboration with Kiaf SEOULKorea Arts Management Service (KAMS), and Frieze Seoul, the talks program features an ambitious agenda reflecting on some of the most salient issues in the international art world today. Designed to both create and strengthen relationships between artists, writers, and cultural leaders, the talks program aims to cultivate new ideas through active debate.

Join Seoul-based designer, curator, and collector Teo Yang (Founder, Teo Yang Studio) who will be in conversation with New York-based curator and advisor Augusto Arbizo (Art advisor, Schwartzman&) and Singapore-based patron Margaret Wang (Managing Partner, Recharge Capital). Led by Nathan Clements-Gillespie (Director, Frieze Masters) the group will discuss the evolution of collecting, from Renaissance Europe and Gilded Age New York to Silicon Valley and Asia in the 21st century.

Moderator: Nathan Clements-Gillespie

Prior to joining Frieze in 2017, Clements-Gillespie was Director of Art16, London and External Affairs Director at MACRO(The Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome), where he served on the commissioning team for the 2013 Italian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. He serves on the Faculty of Fine Arts of the British School at Rome.

Panel: Yang, Teo

Teo Yang Studio endeavors to convey and renew the allure of tradition. The studio has engaged in spatial direction projects at notable venues, including the Gyeongju National Museum, the National Hangeul Museum, and the Korean Cultural Center in China. The studio embraces the philosophy that design is a messaging tool to help foster positive shifts in consciousness and lifestyle transitions within its clients.

Panel: Augusto Arbizo

Augusto Arbizo is an art advisor at Allan Schwartzman’s New York based advisory firm Schwartzman&. Previously, he was a founding director of the New York gallery 11R Eleven Rivington, where he organized over 100 exhibitions. He is currently a board member of The New Art Dealers Alliance(NADA).

Panel: Margaret M Wang

Margaret M Wang is a new Managing Partner at Recharge Capital with a focus on leading their women's healthcare business. Prior to Recharge, she was Executive Director and Head of Bridgewater Associates Singapore and helped launch and manage Bridgewater’s fund and business in Shanghai. Her career spans finance, tech, and non-profit with a focus on business strategy and new market development.
