How does the world reveal or conceal itself from us? What remains opaque or unseen? How can we access events of the past in order to understand today? What roles can artists play in deconstructing and reconfiguring our realities to overcome divisions and alienation?
As new media and digital platforms proliferate and access to information rapidly expands and contracts, artists working today must learn to operate on multiple registers simultaneously, navigating and embracing chaotic times and information overload in pursuit of enduring insights.
In this conversation with two leading artists, Jesse Chun and Minouk Lim, we will hear about their approaches to understanding the gaps in history and how to explore the hidden realms that exist in close proximity to our daily lives. With their respective multimedia practices that question the nature of language and communication, Chun and Lim each propose methods to reveal lost stories and to repair the rifts that haunt us. By discussing their highly individualized artistic practices, we will explore the urgent questions that motivate them to continually innovate and expand their visions.
