Los Angeles-based artist Kang Seung Lee and curator and writer Pablo José Ramírez (Hammer Museum, Los Angeles) will share their recent projects in the light of larger queer and diasporic narratives and the intersection. They will look at how these entanglements take place, especially when they are discussed within Western art institutions. Ramirez’s practice engages with the legacy of diasporic and Indigenous artists, many of them working at the crossroads of material culture and performativity. His work looks critically at the colonial legacies of Western art institutions. Kang Seung Lee’s work frequently engages with the legacy of transnational queer histories, particularly as they intersect with art history. His research and work attempt to reposition queer archives and collections, connecting distinct geographies and repositions to forge new sites of knowledge.
