October Gallery is pleased to present Forest Figures, a much anticipated solo exhibition of new works by Alexis Peskine.
Forest Figures explores the healing properties of ancestral African spirituality, wellbeing and abundance. Peskine is known for his large-scale mixed media ‘portraits’ of the African diaspora, which are rendered by hammering nails with pin-point accuracy into wood stained with natural pigments. In applying gold and silver leaf to the nails he creates extraordinary images. In these new works, Peskine draws on the natural force of the divine spirits from Afro-Brazilian spirituality as a conceptual influence. His wooden ‘canvases’ take on forms of leaves, shells and sliced tree trunks. The exhibition will include striking new photographic and video works.
Opening speeches will be held at 19:15 in the presence of the Artist.
