“Sculpture has the potential to be both terrifying and reassuring at the same time because it’s giving form, it’s giving space, to these things we feel, these things we dream about, these fears. I believe this idea of manifesting things that don’t make sense, that don’t fit, that are odd, that are mixes, is really important for a society to function well.” - Thomas Houseago
Thomas Houseago will lead a tour of his sculpture and painting studios in conversation with Hamza Walker, Director of LAXART. It will be a rare opportunity to gain insight into the influences and processes that inform Houseago’s distinctive practice and view a wide variety of paintings, sculptures, public commissions and works in progress. Houseago’s work has been the subject of museum and gallery exhibitions around the world. A survey exhibition spanning the last 20 years of Houseago’s career, Almost Human, will open at the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, France on March 15, 2019.
Hamza Walker is the Director of LAXART, an independent non-profit art space in Los Angeles.
