The exhibition takes place concurrent to Siopis’ residency at the Maitland Institute, Open Form/Open Studio, where the public is invited to engage in the evolution of Siopis’ glue and ink paintings as she works in situ, and which includes a programme of talks.
These two shows mark the return of Penny Siopis to her concern with the materiality of paint, which formed the basis of the famous cake paintings she made through the 1980s. For the second exhibition at the new Maitland Art Institute she will undertake a residency and an open studio, making new works on site, whilst across town at Stevenson she will present her recent experiments with painting in ink and glue.
