The journey that led to Camille Blatrix’s commission for BMW Open Work 2019
For BMW Open Work at Frieze London 2019, Camille Blatrix produced Sirens, a complex multipart installation involving sculpture, sound and a dialogue with a BMW car.
Blatrix and BMW Open Work Curator Attilia Fattori Franchini discuss the evolution of this project, from the artist’s first inspiration in mythology and the dynamic of desire and repulsion, through work with BMW Individual, the division focussing on car customization, to its realization at Frieze London 2019.
At the centrepiece of BMW Open Work, as Head of Group Cooperations at BMW Hedwig Solis Weinstein explains, ‘is a dialogue... we want artists, though our initiatives, to unfold’.
