Shade Podcast is an award-winning series of conversations on representation within the arts with artists and change-makers. Featuring Ming Smith, Amy Sherald, Rahima Gambo, Nnena Kalu and Cassi Namoda, the fifth series is entitled 'Interludes' and is a collaboration between Shade founder Lou Mensah and the London-based audio artist and poet, Axel Kacoutié. In this video supported by Frieze, Mensah and Kacoutié discuss their ideas behind the experimental series of conversations and original artworks.

About Shade Podcast: Interludes

Running over six episodes, each soundscape-layered conversation is dedicated to one specific artwork in concert with the artist. From British-Kenyan interdisciplinary artist Phoebe Boswell to the African-American master painter, Amy Sherald – alongside Ming Smith, Rahima Gambo, Nnena Kalu and Cassi Namoda—the podcast is an experiment in healing through expansive listening. Interludes takes as its premise the idea that art isn’t only something to dissect intellectually. It should also be felt, a full-body experience. To do that, they settled on a set of works to which Kacoutié would respond with sound.
