As Brooklyn Museum acquires Ed Clark’s Untitled (1978-80) from Frieze New York’s Spotlight section, Anne Pasternak explains the choice
At Frieze New York 2018, the Brooklyn Museum acquired Untitled (1978-80) - a large-scale abstract painting by the American artist Ed Clark - for the Museum's permanent collection, via the LIFEWTR Fund.
A contribution of $100,000 to support the Brooklyn Museum’s acquisition at Frieze New York was provided by LIFEWTR, as part of the brand’s commitment to advancing and showcasing sources of creativity.
Untitled was acquired from Weiss Berlin Gallery, presenting a solo booth of Ed Clark's work in the Spotlight section of the fair, curated by Toby Kamps (Blaffer Art Museum, Houston).
In 2017, the LIFEWTR fund made possible the Brooklyn Museum’s acquisition of Untitled (1971) by Virginia Jaramillo, a work currently featured in the international exhibition, ‘Soul of A Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power.’ Touring from Tate Modern to Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, ‘Soul of a Nation’ opens at the Brooklyn Museum in September: as a result of this acquisition , Ed Clark's Untitled will go on show as part of the exhibition as well.
