Greece makes a renewed attempt to retrieve the Parthenon Marbles while Zaha Hadid gets an impromptu retrospective in Venice
- In the run-up to the 200th anniversary of the removal of the Parthenon Marbles from Athens, the Greek culture minister Aristides Baltas has stated that the government will step up its attempts to retrieve the antiquities from the British Museum in London.
- A new land art project by Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone will be unveiled tomorrow on the outskirts of Las Vegas, Nevada. Titled Seven Magic Mountains and comprising seven stacks of fluorescent limestone, the project has been co-produced by the Art Production Fund and the Nevada Museum of Art.
- A retrospective of the late British architect Zaha Hadid will open in Venice later this month. The exhibition, which will display both finished and incomplete projects, will open at the Palazzo Franchetti on the 26 May to coincide with the city’s Architecture Biennale.
- The Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland has appointed Andria Hickey as senior curator and A. Will Brown as assistant curator. Hickey, associate curator of the Public Art Fund in New York, will assume the role in September, while Brown, former curatorial assistant for contemporary art at the Museum of the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, will move in July.
- Pioneering digital artist Harold Cohen has passed away, aged 87. Born in London in 1928, Cohen was the creator of AARON, one of the first software programs for generating art.
