  • Long-suffering art centre De Appel has launched a petition appealing for support against the planned removal of their national funding. On their website the Amsterdam institution say that the Dutch Council for Culture has advised the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science to ‘completely cut’ its financial backing. This news follows the long running saga concerning the firing of director Lorenzo Benedetti last year which resulted in a subsequent court case and the resignation of their entire board.

  • Richard Prince has left Gagosian, artnet news reports. The artist is being sued by music photographer Dennis Morris for copyright infringement over a photo of Sex Pistols’s Sid Vicious. This is the third copyright complaint to be filed against Prince, Gagosian publicly backed Prince in his previous two.

  • A Korean gallery operator has been arrested for selling three forged works by Lee Ufan, making 1.3 billion Won ($1.1 million) from the sales. Korean prosecutors claim the man, named by his surname Hyeon, collaborated with an antiques dealer and hired an artist to help make the forgeries, including a copy of one of Lee’s iconic painting series From Point (1972–84). Apparently Hyeon and the artist made another 50 counterfeit works.
