PYO Minhong uses poetic language and images through text, installation and video to create fragmented narratives and forms that suggest the impossibility of fully occupying language and place. A video poem, nothing here was ours (2021) compresses a history of speculation based on limited information about a place. The fictional narrator navigates a space with memories of an individual or others mixed together; there is a sense of a location which temporarily borrows the meaning and function of language and place, waiting to be occupied by someone else. The place in the video is a kind of fictitious absence, with no record of an occupant ever having stayed there and eroded from history. It moves into a ghostly and insubstantial space-time, conceding to the observer.
