Kara Walker is an artist based in New York, USA. Walker is best known for her candid investigation of race, gender, sexuality and violence through silhouetted figures that have appeared in numerous exhibitions worldwide. Her Turbine Hall commission, Fons Americanus, was installed at Tate Modern, London, UK between October 2019 and 2021.
Author and artist James Hannaham’s novel Delicious Foods (2015) won the PEN/Faulkner Award. In 2020, he was awarded Best in Show in ‘Biblio Spectaculum’ at Main Street Arts Gallery, upstate New York, USA. His exhibition ‘Jim Crow Hell’ runs at Open Source Gallery, Brooklyn, USA, from Feb 18–Apr 1 2021. He has two books on the way, in 2021 and 2022.
