India-based writer and editor Skye Arundhati Thomas has surveyed contemporary art across South Asia, new literature and television, and the effects of anti-immigrant policies in both India and the UK. Much of her work focuses on how contemporary revolutionary movements and political discourse sit in proximity to artwork and artistic practice. In her latest for frieze, Thomas looks at I May Destroy You, Michaela Coel’s groundbreaking show about a writer and her friends navigating the ‘contradictions, intimacies and untidiness of sexual violation,’ and how they hit a deeply personal nerve. Thomas joined editor Evan Moffitt for a conversation about her practice and how to write through trauma.
