BMW Open Work 2019 artist Camille Blatrix introduces his practice in his studio in the 14th arrondissement of Paris.
Blatrix’s commission for BMW Open Work grows out of his obsession with objects, and their capacity for allure and frustration. The dynamic of attraction and repulsion will be explored in the installation, premiering at Frieze London, which he is developing in collaboration with BMW Individual, the division focusing on car customization.
As Blatrix explains, incorporating both handmade elements and those manufactured by others has been a distinct aspect of the way he makes sculptures, and adds to their mystery. ‘The more time you spend with objects, the more mystical the object is.’
