Against a backdrop of community rebuilding following the recent wildfires, Frieze Los Angeles 2025 sees the city’s art community gather and galvanize.
In this edition of Art:LIVE, Matthew McLean, creative director of Frieze Studios and editor of Frieze Week, conducts a tour of the fair to meet some of those taking part. He encounters Art Production Fund’s Casey Fremont to discuss this year’s Frieze Projects programme, which includes a golden Easter egg hunt from Claire Chambless, Ozzie Juarez’s swap meet and Madeline Hollander’s exclusive flying club.
He meets the winner of the 2025 Frieze Impact Prize, Victor “Marka27” Quiñonez, to understand how a platform like Frieze can be a vital engine for social justice, catches up with the winner of last year’s Deutsche Bank Frieze Los Angeles Film Award, Kaylen Ng, to hear about her new feature project and the impetus that the award has given to her career and meets the host of this year’s award, Ahmed Best (aka Star Wars’ Jar Jar Binks), who explains why such prizes are so vital to young filmmakers in Hollywood.
He also chats to artists such as April Bey and Sam Falls, dials into a conversation between Los Angeles-based artist Ariana Papademetropoulos and a psychic, and finally gets to relax in a magical Chris Burden work never before seen in Los Angeles.
