JUNE CLARK

Track 1: Our Day Will Come -- Ruby and the Romantics
June Clark’s work harks on the archival energy of what has come before her. Her works almost mirror, as a shrine to her ancestors. She exclaims, “…Through these pieces I want to make a song. My ancestors can watch and rest”.
MARCOS SIQUEIRA
Untitled, 2023
Pigment on wood
35.43" x 35.43" (90 cm x 90 cm)

Track 2: Airport Love Theme -- Waldir Calmon
Both Marcos Siqueria and Waldir paint and play in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Marcos uses the landscape to create from the warm pigments of the earth whilst Waldir creates compositions from the sounds of the time. I can see them sitting on this park bench as time passes in the day.
EMMA PREMPEH
Unwavering, 2023
Oil, Acrylic, Polyester and Schlag metal on Canvas
68.9" x 68.9" (175 cm x 175 cm)

Track 3: Kiss of Life -- Sade
In the beginning of Kiss of Life, Sade says “there must have been an angel by my side. Something helped that lead me to you…”. In Unwavering by Emma Prempeh, I notice the subtleties of form and aspects of place but can’t quite put a concrete answer on who, and where these two people, or spirits are located in time.
LAUREN HALSEY
Untitled, 2023
inkjet print (framed)
62.76" x 96.26" x 2.01" (159.4 cm x 244.5 cm x 5.1 cm)
Edition of 6, with 2 AP

Track 4: 7 Minutes of Funk -- The Whole Darn Family
Lauren Halsey is the Funk. She literally brings The Whole Darn Family into her digital collage. I can’t think of anyone else who can show all ranges of emotions for Black life as much as she does. Creating a bridge between past and present seamlessly, I enjoy how she works in a non-linear way.
JOHN CHAMBERLAIN
Limbomaniac, 1988-2005
painted and chromed steel
39.76" x 50" x 35" (101 cm x 127 cm x 88.9 cm)

Track 5: Please Don’t Leave Me Now -- Madison Mcferrin
Madison speaks in an interview about how this song was created after a near fatal car accident. Much like her music, John Chamberlain creates beauty out of forged and twisted metal resembling car or car parts.
