About the Work

Ghost Forest Flower was crafted on Gapado, a small island of about 300 inhabitants, close to Jeju Island on the southern edge of South Korea. Jun created noise music with collected radio frequencies from ships traveling to and from the island, in addition to electrical noise from the island’s generators, wind, waves and blades of grass. The film captures the movement of condensed energy the artist experienced on the island through sound.

About the Artists

Sojung Jun (b.1982; based in Seoul, South Korea) constructs non-linear dimensions of time and space to create a new awareness of the past and present that intersects history, geopolitics and ecology. Jungju An (b.1975; based in Seoul, South Korea) transforms fragments and variates, looping sounds and images using field recording and documentary methods to create video works with distinctive critical narrative structures.

Beyond their solo projects, the artists’ collaborations explore the political possibilities of sound, pushing each other’s established boundaries. Their projects include Ghost Forest Flower (Gapado AiR, 2022); The Ghost in the Machine (MMCA, 2021); Automatic Autonomy (Art Plant Asia, 2020); Makers (Atelier Hermès, 2015); and released the vinyl Mountain of Delusion (Gwangju Biennale, 2018).
