About the Film

FREM combines analogue and digital imagery to explore Antarctica’s disappearing landscape. The film starts with nostalgic analogue photos, transitioning to crystal-clear digital shots of the Antarctic expanse, featuring drone footage with breathing sounds, distorted audio and white noise. It portrays miniature survivors amidst the stark landscape, blending reality with fiction. FREM is a poetic documentary, a science fiction film and an examination of imaging processes. Using drone technology, it captures Antarctica’s territorial and geopolitical aspects, reflecting on human existence. The film emphasizes the textures and haunting atmospheres of the icy, desolate environment, rather than focusing on global warming.
