‘This is one of my favourite places in the world,’ says Korean singer-songwriter SAAY about the historic Yeong Bin Gwan at the Shilla Hotel, the setting for her performance for Frieze Music Seoul. Fresh from her debut shows in the US, SAAY is obviously delighted to be back in the city she calls home.
Known for her complete creative vision which includes writing, playing, producing and performing, SAAY says ‘making all the concepts, from the top to the very end of the production is so important to me: I just want to be me’. Formerly the lead member of the group EvoL, Saay has been making music since her teens, partly inspired by R&B she heard as a child during a spell living in New York. Even her name is a considered production, with ‘say’ connotating communication and speaking her truth, with the additional A ‘to develop myself as an “A+” musician’.
