A day packed with talks, from Dominique Gonzalez Foerster and Philippe Parreno at Frieze London to Marina Abramović at Frieze Masters
The second Frieze Art & Architecture conference takes place today at the Royal Institution, London, from 10am-5.30pm. Leading architects, artists and museum directors, including Sir David Adjaye, Pablo Bronstein, Sir David Chipperfield, Elizabeth Diller, Thomas Heatherwick and Amanda Levete, will discuss the interplay between designing spaces and making, exhibiting and living with art. Alternatively, tour Frieze Sculpture with curator Clare Lilley’s audio guide, provided by ArtFund – then pop back to Frieze London for another view of sculpture in the form of Hauser & Wirth’s anarchic ‘Age of Bronze’ presentation, curated by Cambridge classicist Mary Beard.
In the auditorium at Frieze London, join a discussion chaired by Ralph Rugoff (Director, Hayward Gallery) with Jeremy Deller, Antony Gormley and Adam Pendleton at 12.30pm. Entitled 'Alt-Monuments', the discussion will addresss the issue of what we do with statues of morally reprehensible historical figures. Then, at 4.30pm, artists Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster and Philipe Parreno will stage a performance-conversation, Letter to One Hundred Viewers. Be sure to be at the auditorium at least 15 minutes in advance in order to secure a place.
Meanwhile in the Reading Room: Bruges Triennial give an announcement at 12.30pm; the White Review host a panel discussion on the role of art criticism with speakers Rosanna McLaughlin, Izabella Scott, Ben Eastham and Orit Gat.
Over at Frieze Masters, the day of talks begins with Marina Abramović in conversation with Tim Marlow at 12pm, followed by a panel on ‘The Aesthetics of Display’, chaired by Jennifer Higgie with Michael Craig-Martin, Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev and Luke Syson.
After dark, galleries including Emalin, Hales and Maureen Paley take part in Frieze East End Night. Nearby, in the City, the grandeur of The Ned beckons for a late supper or a nightcap.
Alternatively, if you've been lucky enough to get your hands on a ticket to Frieze Music, a night of Dancefloor Meditations beckons. Created by Jarvis Cocker and Steve Mackey and hosted by the Vinyl Factory, the event will consist of an immersive, otherworldly journey into sound, word, rhythm and light.
