Frieze Writer's Prize 2017

The Frieze Writer’s Prize, our annual international award to discover and promote new art critics, is open for entries. 

This year the prize will be judged by frieze associate editor Pablo Larios, artist and writer Ed Atkins, and novelist and co-editor of Semiotext(e) Chris Kraus. The winner will be commissioned to write a review for frieze magazine and will be awarded GBP£2,000.

Aspiring art critics are invited to submit one unpublished review of a recent contemporary art exhibition, which should be 700 words in length. Entries should be emailed as a Word attachment to writersprize@frieze.com.

Guidelines for submissions

– Entries must be submitted in English, but may be translated (this must be acknowledged).
– Entrants must be over 18 years of age at the time of submission.
– Entrants are allowed a maximum of three previously published pieces of writing on art.
– The closing date for entries is 18 July 2017.

Ed Atkins is an artist and writer based in London and Berlin. Recent and upcoming solo exhibitions in 2017 include MMK, Frankfurt, Germany; Martin Gropius Bau, Berlin, Germany; and DHC/ART, Montreal, Canada. His book A Primer for Cadavers was published in 2016 by Fitzcarraldo Editions.

Chris Kraus is the author of four novels and two books of art and cultural criticism, and a co-editor of Semiotext(e), with Hedi El Kholti and Sylvère Lotringer. Her biography of KathyAcker will be published in August 2017.

Pablo Larios is a writer and associate editor of frieze magazine. He lives in Berlin.
