Interval. Recess. Pause. (2017) is based on the narrative of three Korean adoptees about memories that are undefinable visual images as they exist through other senses. These fragments are marked in their memory as unclear yet involve intense senses such as color, sound, taste and smell. JUN navigates through image, sound, narration and text, creating a sequence of connections and disconnections that generate gaps in space-time. She focuses on the sensory dimension of memory and its potential to bridge individual and collective experiences. Within the video, the memories of the three individuals are presented in a narrative form, interspersed with performative interpretations of Theresa Hak Kyung Cha’s Dictée (1982) by the choreographer Olivia Lioret. In this way, these individual memories, holding possibilities of loss and creation, evoke transitions and variations of the senses. Through the interpenetration of sensory perceptions, it leads to shared memories, emotions, sentiments and thoughts.
