2023 Spring Programme at No.9 Cork Street

A diverse line-up of galleries are taking over No.9 Cork Street, Frieze's central London gallery space, throughout Spring 2023.

This season’s roster sees a series of participating galleries from across the globe including Dastan Gallery (Tehran), G Gallery (Seoul), Jhaveri Contemporary (Mumbai), Galleri Opdahl (Stavanger) and Tiwani Contemporary (London & Lagos). Plus a reading night with established and emerging trans* and non-binary writers, 'TISSUE' hosted by Sam Moore and Donna Marcus Duke, and 'Revolt Against the Sun' - a night of film screenings by Shasha Movies followed by a Q&A with Roisin Tapponi, Marwan Kaabour, and Alvaro Barrington.

March:

'With Tenderness' presented by Tiwani Contemporary & 'Appearances' by G Gallery


Tiwani Contemporary’s two-artist exhibition ‘With Tenderness’, opens the Spring season and features London-based painter Emma Prempeh, as well as introducing Haitian-American sculptor Abigail Lucien in their first UK show, which runs until 1 April. At the same time, from 9 – 25 March, G Gallery will show ‘Appearances’, the first UK solo exhibition of Korean artist Woo Hannah’s fabric sculptures and installations.



13–29 April:

'REALISM' presented by Dastan Gallery, a selection of Alice Frey works presented by Vendelmans & ‘FF Projects: Manifold’ by Faridah Folawiyo


The Tehran-based spaced Dastan Gallery will present a group exhibition featuring artists including Sina Shiri, Andisheh Avini, Mitra Farahani, Reza Aramesh, Y.Z. Kami and more, examining the tension between the idea of realism and the lived experiences of Iranians, specifically their endurance through recent civil and economic turmoil.

Showing alongside will be the highly anticipated second edition of curator Faridah Folawiyo’s ‘FF Projects: Manifold’, a group exhibition centering on the work of Black female artists from across the globe, including Turiya Adkins, Ayoade Bamgboye, Olukemi Lijadu, Rachel Marsil, Fadekemi Ogunsanya and Isabel Okoro and more.

Vendelmans is proud to present a selection of works by Belgian artist Alice Frey (1895-1981). The exhibition is the first solo-presentation of the artist’s work outside of continental Europe, and also marks the first exhibition dedicated solely to FREY in the last fifty years.

11–27 May:

Ali Kazim presented by Jhaveri Contemporary, Tom Howse and Jone Kvie with Galleri Opdahl, and Im Heung-soon presented by The Page Gallery


Concluding the season, from 11 – 27 May, Jhaveri Contemporary will show recent work by Pakistani artist Ali Kazim, following his recent solo exhibition at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, and Galleri Opdahl will exhibit the work of British painter Tom Howse and Norwegian sculptor and documenta 2022-participating artist Jone Kvie. The Page Gallery will also present a solo exhibition of Korean artist and film director Im Heung-soon, entitled 'The Observatory'.

March 23:

Reading Night with Trans* and Non-Binary Writers on Strike Action, 'TISSUE' hosted by Sam Moore and Donna Marcus Duke


In addition, No. 9 Cork Street will host TISSUE, a reading night dedicated to showcasing both established and emerging trans* and non-binary writers, seeking to explore and understand what it means to be trans in a way that moves beyond the strict expectations of memoir, identity politics, and trauma porn. On Thursday March 23, Sam Moore and Donna Marcus Duke are hosting a series of readings on Strike Action featuring Amy Etherington, Tomara Garrod, Jetsün Shenkyong-ma, and more, to explore the labour of transition, the power of the people and the politics of abstaining from action.

April 20:

'Revolt Against the Sun': A Night of Film presented by Shasha Movies


Shasha Movies presents a subversive programme of contemporary Iraqi video art, produced between 2017-2022. These works revolt against form, against structure, and against the sun.

The screenings will be followed by a Q&A with Roisin Tapponi, Marwan Kaabour, and Alvaro Barrington.
